1 · Cardinal Numbers: 0 – 19

The numbers 0–15 are unique words you must memorize. From 16 onward the pattern becomes predictable: dieci + (unit) — e.g. dieciséis (10+6).

2 · Tens: 20 – 90

From 20 onward, compound numbers use y (and) between the ten and the unit: veintidós (22), treinta y tres (33). Note: 21–29 are written as one word (veintiuno, veintidós…); 31+ use the separate y pattern.

Key rules for hundreds

4 · Ordinal Numbers

Ordinals agree in gender and number with the noun they describe: el primer piso (the first floor, masc.) · la primera planta (the first floor, fem.).

24-hour time: Timetables, train/bus schedules, and airports in Spanish-speaking countries always use the 24-hour clock. Say the numbers directly: El vuelo sale a las diecisiete cuarenta. (The flight leaves at 17:40.)

7 · Days of the Week

In Spanish, days of the week are not capitalized. The week traditionally starts on Monday (lunes). To say "on Monday" use el lunes; for recurring days use los lunes (every Monday).

Months are also not capitalized in Spanish. To say a date: el + day number + de + month. For the first of the month use primero: el primero de enero (January 1st).
